Necklace Length Guide

Necklace length changes how a chain frames the neckline, where a pendant sits, and how easily the piece layers with other jewelry. Use these common lengths as a starting point, then consider your neck circumference, neckline, pendant size, and preferred fit.

14 inches — Collar

Sits high and close around the base of the neck. Best for delicate collar-style chains and certain layered looks. This length can feel quite fitted, so check your neck measurement before choosing it.

16 inches — Short / Choker Length

Usually rests around the base of the neck or just above the collarbone. It works well with open necklines and as the shortest layer in a necklace stack.

18 inches — Classic Princess Length

One of the most versatile fine-jewelry lengths. It typically sits around the collarbone and works well for solitaire pendants, diamond necklaces, and everyday wear.

20 inches — Mid-Length

Falls slightly below the collarbone and gives pendants more breathing room. It is also useful as a second or third layer above shorter chains.

22–24 inches — Longer Statement Length

Sits lower on the upper chest and works well with larger pendants, higher necklines, or a more relaxed drape.

Choosing the right length

• For a close neckline: start around 14–16 inches.
• For an everyday pendant: 18 inches is a common starting point.
• For more drop or larger pendants: consider 20–24 inches.
• For layering: leave visible spacing between chains so pendants do not compete for the same position.
